For all of those people that were wondering if Kyle Lowry was going to fall back after signing a long term deal in the off season; well Mr. Lowry just answered with maybe his best regular season game in a Raptor uniform. Lowry finished with 35 points on 12 of 17 shooting!!! Think about that for a second, it’s exactly like Kobe Bryant’s performance on Tuesday night….except the exact opposite.
But it wasn’t just about the points, the Raptors point guard did it all on a night when they were missing 3 out of 5 players in their starting line up. Both Jonas Valanciunas and Amir Johnson were out due to injuries, while Terrence Ross has been missing in action since last year’s playoffs. But none of that was going to stop Lowry, even with his team facing an early double digit deficit. Lowry’s 14 point 3rd quarter or even the above play to DeRozan will get most of the headlines. But it was the charges, defensive intensity and just down right refusal to let his team lose that is quickly turning Kyle Lowry into Toronto’s favourite athlete. It was the little things like making sure he got to the line when the team desperately needed to stop a run. The slick passes that he kept on dropping to teammates for wide open looks. He just seemed so locked in, that you just knew his last step back jumper was going in the moment he stepped over half court. Lowry appeared to have everyone in awe of his performance.
Kyle Lowry was even trending worldwide by the end of the game and it’s only a matter of time before the Canadian media realizes that this #WeTheNorth movement is no joke. The Toronto Raptors are off to their best start in a decade, but to prove that they are indeed for real, the wins will have to keep coming…maybe even at a faster pace than some of us are ready for…Right Drizzy Drake?
As always, just my thoughts. Right or wrong, just what I’m feeling at the time.
